Reading Assignment

REGULATING LINES

We were expected to read an required article and share our comments in the forum. Here is mine:

"Regulating lines are fundamental elements that balance architectural design, serving as more than strict guidelines. These lines have been essential in architecture from ancient times to modern practices emerging from humanity's innate desire to impose order on space. They evolve with the times yet consistently fulfill their core purpose: providing structures with rhythm, harmony, and proportion. These elements are aligned with geometry. In my view, geometry and regulating lines are what allow architecture to transcend mere construction; they make a design feel natural, as if it was always meant to be there."

We were expected to watch the video of the chapter of the TV show "Young People’s Concerts" titled "What Does Music Mean", by Leonard Bernstein, from 1958. After then we had to share our comments in the forum.

Here is the video and my command:

Reading Assignment 2

WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN?

Leonard Bernstein believed that music communicates emotions more profoundly than words, existing beyond narrative or specific meaning. Music, in his view, doesn’t tell a story but instead awakens feelings through the way notes come together. The meaning lies not in the individual notes but in how they come together, in the spaces between them.

This thought is associated with the idea of abstraction in art. Just as abstract art, like Piet Mondrian’s works, moves away from concrete forms to allow for limitless. Thanks to this video, I realized that the purpose of music is not to create something concrete in people’s minds and compare music to anything specific. Music creates emotional experiences without needing to represent anything specific.
